Even artists have their “fanboy” moments, and I had one of mine at the vibrant Pa Gya Festival in Accra, Ghana. Amid the energy and creativity that filled the air, I had the incredible honor of meeting Kwame Brenya, a renowned Ghanaian spoken word artivist whose work has deeply inspired me.
The Beauty of Synergy: Artist & Sound in Harmony
A powerful spoken word performance begins with words, but it’s the sound that gives those words breath, rhythm, and soul. At Pa Gya, I had the privilege of performing alongside the phenomenal Akom Band, whose mastery elevated each of the seven poems I performed into something beyond this world. Their music didn’t just accompany the performance, it became part of the poetry itself, weaving emotion, depth, and life into every verse. The collaboration was pure magic, a reminder that art truly thrives in synergy. (watch full performance here)
A Stepping Stone to the Global Stage
While this unforgettable performance in Ghana marked the final international show under the Goethe MobiArts Tour programme, I don’t see it as an ending, rather, it’s the beginning of something greater.
This experience has opened new windows for international collaborations and inspired me to push spoken word to new heights across borders. The journey continues, and the world stage is just the next chapter.
